The Magic of the Glencairn Whiskey Glass

The Magic of the Glencairn Whiskey Glass

Irish Whiskey Experiences

The Glencairn whiskey glass is a style of glass developed by Glencairn Crystal. Originally designed by Raymond Davidson, managing director of the company, the shape of the glass is derived from the traditional nosing copitas used in whiskey labs around Scotland. The glass design was concluded with the aid of master blenders from five of the largest whiskey companies in Scotland. The glass first came into production in 2001 and has taken the world by storm since its inception!

Here is some of their reasons as to why it is the best whiskey tasting glass in the world:

The wide crystal bowl allows for the fullest appreciation of the whiskey’s colour

The tapering mouth of the glass captures and focuses the aroma on the nose

It’s unique patented shape is the perfect form to admire the body of the whiskey

Designed to fit in the hand comfortably & allow your whiskey to develop in the glass over time

The glass is approximately 115 mm in height and the capacity of a typical Glencairn whiskey glass is approximately 175 ml (5.9 US fl oz), and it is intended to hold approximately 50ml.

The Glencairn is the first style to be endorsed by the Scotch Whisky Association and it is used by almost every whiskey distillery in Scotland and Ireland.
