Savour a Midlands Whiskey from a Banyuls Cask!
Egan’s Irish Whiskey have recently launched another new whiskey for us to savour here in the Midlands! Egan’s Legacy 2 is a 16 Year Old single malt and it truly is a delicious drop!
It has been aged for 16 years in ex-bourbon casks and has been finished in a Banyuls cask. Banyuls is a French appellation D’origine Contrôlée (AOC) for a fortified apéritif or dessert wine made from old vines cultivated in terraces on the slopes of the Catalan Pyrenees in the Roussillon county of France.
The Egan’s family kindly sent us a sample to try recently and we were very impressed with the whiskey’s fruity palate and chocolatey nose.
P&H Egan is a family company from Tullamore spanning six generations with whiskey in their blood. The family heritage dates back 1852, when Patrick Egan Senior moved his business to Tullamore and purchased the iconic Bridge House and the family business evolved from there.
His two sons, Henry and his brother Patrick Junior carried on the family legacy for many years and built a large and diverse enterprise in Tullamore that involved brewing, bottling, malting, whiskey bonding, retail, pubs, hotels and even animal feeds!
Today, the fifth and sixth generations are led by Jonathan and Maurice Egan who continue to carry on the family legacy.
The launch of Egan’s Legacy 2 16 Year Old marks another iconic moment for Midlands Whiskey and will be a welcome addition to our Midlands Whiskey Tasting Experience family. Egan’s plan to introduce a new iteration of the Legacy Reserve series every year and we look forward to each and every one of them to come!
